Weekend Preview: Maine

It has been a while since my last post but I am back to it for conference. This weekend preview starts off with a recap of the "1st season" as we like to call it around here of non-conference play. We played very well overall as a group and led to us carrying in an overall record of 16-7. We are pitching very well as a staff, our fielding percentage is right at .980 and our team average is above .300. We have played top ranked teams and played well for the most part against everyone over the first third of the year. We had 2 no hitters, one by Frankie Vanderka and the other a combined no-no by Nick Tropeano and Brandon McNitt. We have been on News 12 and featured in a few baseball publications, including Baseball America. We were ranked as high as 40th in RPI and were ranked #23 in the Mid Major poll.

Looking ahead to this weekend and all of conference schedule, we plan on carrying over the solid all around play. We aim to continue to pitch and play defense at a high standard. This coupled with some timely hitting, as our lineup 1-9 can contribute at anytime, will allow us to achieve that goal. And as always the ultimate goal is to get to, and win the conference tournament and beyond.

This weekend we are taking on the Maine Black Bears. The Black Bears were picked second, behind us, in the America East Pre-Season coaches poll. They have 15 players returning from last season and are led by Taylor Lewis, who is batting .343 good for 5th in the America East. Their team ERA is at 6.06 and is led by Shaun Coughlin who has a 1.57 ERA over 10 appearances. Maine is currently 9-16 overall but, have won 4 of their last 5 games.

The Schedule for this weekend is a bit changed because we do not have a field yet with Joe Nathan Field still being built.
Saturday will be a double header starting at 1pm. Game will be played at Dowling College.
Sunday is also a double header starting at 1pm. Games will be played at Adelphi University.

Come down and be sure to tell others, follow and share it up.
